| Camerata Singapore performs on antique string instruments in one-night only concert
GPA Holdings' rare instruments took centre stage in 'Jewels of the Bygone Era', an event sponsored by GPA Holdings and co-organised by Singapore Press Holdings’ The Peak magazine. For the first time in Asia, many of these string instruments are being played ‘live’ publicly. These instruments include a 1758 Paolo Antonio Testore violin, played by Bulgarian maestro Ivan Peev.
Another notable instrument is a US$800,000 David Tecchler cello that was made in 1735 A.D. The cello is played on by GPA Holdings’ director and Tanglewood Music School principal, Ms. Karen Yap. The instruments under GPA Holdings’ collection were played in the masterful hands of Camerata Singapore, an eclectic group of classical musicians formed in 2004 to fill the vacancy of a professional performing group in the local chamber music scene.
Camerata Singapore played to a packed audience at the Jubilee Hall, Raffles Hotel. Invited guests from GPA and The Peak were also treated to a pre and post event cocktail reception where they mingled with the musicians and the event’s Guest-of-Honour, Dr. Lily Neo, MP of Jalan Besar GRC. Jewels of the Bygone Era saw many other ambassadors and foreign dignitaries enjoy a night of style, elegance and fine classical music.
“We both were thrilled by the variety of Camerata’s selection and thoroughly enjoyed every piece. We look forward to another opportunity to listen to Camerata” -Mr and Mrs Gerhard Meschke, Austrian Embassy.
